There are a few casinos in the state, most on moored river boats. The largest of the Iowa gambling halls is the Meswaki Bingo Casino Hotel, an American Indian gambling den in Tama, with 127,669 square feet of casino area, 1,500 one armed bandits, thirty table games, such as 21, craps, roulette, and baccarat, and several styles of poker; also three dining rooms, monthly entertainment, and gaming advice. A further large Indian casino is the Winna Vegas, with 45,000 square feet, 668 slots, and 14 table games. Also, the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs is open 24 hours, with 38,500 sq.ft., 1,589 one armed bandits, 36 table games, and 4 dining rooms. There are several other popular Iowa gambling halls, including Harrah’s Council Bluffs, with 28,250 square feet, 1,212 slot machines, and 39 table games.
A smaller Iowa gambling den is the Diamond Jo, a river boat gambling hall in Dubuque, with 17,813 sq.ft., 776 slot machines, and 19 table games. The Catfish Bend paddle wheel boat, in Fort Madison, with 13,000 sq.ft., 535 one armed bandits, and 14 table games. One more Iowa river based gambling hall, The Isle of Capri, is open all day and night, with 24,939 square feet, 1,100 one armed bandits, and 24 table games. The Mississippi Belle II, a 10,577 sq.ft. riverboat gambling den in Clinton, has 506 slots, 14 table games, live shows, and Thursday twenty-one tournaments.
Iowa casinos offer an excellent deal of tax money to the commonwealth of Iowa, which has permitted the funding of a good many state wide projects. Visitors have grown at a fast rate along with the requirement for companies and a gain in jobs. Iowa casinos have been helpful to the expansion of the economy, and the enthusiasm for wagering in Iowa is widespread.
